Even for a summer sun worshiper, the cooler weather has its benefits. Um, hello sweaters, scarfs, and BOOTS! (Pumpkin spice lattes should be a given, but I’ll put it here just in case. #basic)
For some reason, fall also starts the half of the year when I get back into doing my make up and trying out new hair products. Beach hair don’t care doesn’t exactly work at this temperature, and my fair skin (more like alabaster) without a tan starts crying for some foundation. Here are some of my faves so far this season:
For the hair:
Don’t ask me how, but this really does work for either smoothing out and taming hair for a sleek, straight look OR creating more of a deconstructed, bedhead look (my personal go-to).
A year-round necessity. This oil has a really great consistency, especially if you’re looking for something on the lighter side. Plus, it smells great.
For the face:
3. Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 (one of my all-time favorite products year round).
I use this as a moisturizer and “foundation” during the day. It makes my complexion look SO much better that I can even get away without anything else on. In the summer months, when it’s too hot for makeup in South Carolina, this actually is the only thing I wear on my face (and can’t live without). Creates a smooth, dewey look that I LOVE and makes my skin baby soft.
4. Bare Minerals BareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation. (Not pictured)
Be prepared to look like a well-hydrated porcelain doll. Just a few drops of this magic potion using this brush and you’ll see what I mean. Also has SPF 20.
5. Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Powder in color Champagne Pop
I use this as a high-lighter on my cheek bones, bridge of nose, and upper lip. Champagne Pop seems like it would be a great color for any skin tone (mine is very pale), but there’s also a few other gorgeous shades.
For the eyes:
Although it’s meant for all over the face, I use this as an eyeshadow trio and I LOVE it. Speaking of shadows, pictured are also a few of my Chanel Makeup Brushes. Yes, these are pricey, but well worth the investment. I’ve owned all three of these (and more) for over a decade and they are still perfection. I clean them using shampoo–might sound odd, but they are made of hair, after all.
I first discovered this product over the summer when I was looking for a water-proof mascara. A girl working at Ulta with fabulous eye makeup told me it was her favorite, and it did not disappoint.
The tip on this guy makes it super versatile and easy to apply, even for those with shaky hands like me. I love that I can get so close to my eye lash line for a thin, barely there look, or build upon it for a dramatic, winged cat eye. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to another liquid eyeliner brand.
For the lips:
9. Stila Color Balm.
Looks like a lipstick, feels like a soothing chapstick. Need I say more?
10. Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick. (not pictured)
We all know that “all day” is usually a gross exaggeration, but this one is as close as it comes. Great selection of colors; “Perla” is a personal favorite right now.
For the nails:
For the last few years I’ve been more into OPI’s nail colors, but this year Essie won me back. Colors I’m loving for this season are “Eternal Optimist,” “Clothing Optional,” and Angora Cardi”–Fun fact: this last one is the “most pinned” polish right now on Pinterest.
And for the scent:
An obvious classic. I just started wearing this again–I rotate between this and Chanel Chance (the original) for spring/summer and Coco Mademoiselle for fall/winter. This one always gets the most compliments.
